With so many people concerned about energy costs and conservation, should you get a gas fireplace blower installed on your fireplace? There are many different styles and options available to you and they have changed quite a bit from the old days of noisy blowers that blew cold air.
One of the first options that you need to consider is if your ventless fireplace has or can have installed a gas fireplace blower. While most models of ventless fireplaces will work with one, some ventless fireplaces won’t work with one due to size or other constraints. Sometimes you need to consider that factor before buying your model or if you already have one before you get it installed.
Sometimes you can find a good fireplace blower that is designed for your regular woodburning fireplaces that could possibly also work in your ventless model. This is not recommended however due to the construction features that help prevent problems. You could also void your warranty as well.
Many gas fireplace blowers are now installed with the fireplace when they come from the factory and aren’t considered an optional install anymore.
Does it make sense to use the gas fireplace blower in your home? It really depends on where your fireplace is located, how much you use it and where your thermostat for your furnace is located. If your fireplace is in the family room or basement, and you utilize this area a lot, then it would make sense to use it. If the fireplace heat will affect the thermostat operation, it might keep the room warm, signalling to your furnace that all is warm and well, but the rest of the house will be cold.
If you are considering a gas fireplace blower, or are wondering if you should get one with your new ventless fireplace, the best bet is to talk to other owners and the salesperson. They will have the most information about the pro’s and con’s associated with gas fireplace blowers.
