Until now.

Ventless fireplaces and especially ventless gel fireplaces now can crackle and even emit an odor like a faint wood burning smell. While some people might not want the crackles or odors, a lot of people do want them as it makes the ventless fireplace seem more realistic.

It is harder to get the crackling noise and odors from a ventless gas fireplace, however most manufacturers of ventless gel fireplaces offer a variety of gel fuel cannisters for odors and crackling noises.

Watch this great video and listen to the crackling noises from the fireplace.

Is the ventless gel fireplace right for you? What is a ventless gel fireplace?

The gel fueled fireplace isn’t anything new, however it is gaining in popularity amongst homeowners and interior designers as it has numerous design options. The gel fireplace is in the family of ventless fireplaces. Ventless fireplaces are very popular as they offer numerous design options for relatively cheap prices.

The ventless gel fireplace is a quick and easy installation project that most people can do within a couple of hours. There are no expensive tools or messy home modifications. There is no chimney or flue pipes that have to be maintained with a ventless fireplace, or ventless gel fireplace.

The ventless gel fireplace will give off some heat. But, it should not be used as a heating source for your home. It is more for decoration and looks that functionality of a heating source.

The ventless gel firplace is easy to use also. You just take a can of the gel, place it behind your logs and light it. Some fireplace models will hold up to 3 of the cans, with each can usually providing 2 to 3 hours of flame.

With the ease of installation, no maintenance and low prices, a lot of people in apartments and condos are turning to ventless gel fireplaces to add a decorative element to their homes. Even business offices are using them to add a higher class look to their office space.

While the regular ventless fireplaces are still great to use for heating, especially if you have natural gas or propane available, gel fireplaces are gaining in popularity. If you are just wanting a decorative look of elegance, a ventless gel fireplace might be the way to go.

One of the concerns when using a ventless fireplace is carbon monoxide. You need to understand how ventless fireplaces work in order to have a better understanding of the processes that are involved with ventless fireplaces.

Carbon monoxide is a by-product of any burning process of any fuel. Ventless fireplaces are not an exception to this.

Since the ventless fireplace is ventless, there is no way for the by-products of combustion to be vented to the outside. This can cause some concern if the ventless fireplace is left on for more than 4 hours, or the manufacturers recommended time.

Another by-product of ventless fireplaces is water vapor. Water vapor is released when the heat from the flame touches the cooler air of the room. If you are using a ventless fireplace in a small area, you could possibly notice a buildup of humidity in that area.

With a greater concern about carbon monoxide safety, some manufacturers are putting a built-in carbon monoxide detector into the ventless fireplace. This should never be relied upon in the place of having your own carbon monoxide detector in your own home.

With any gas fired appliance, you really should have a good carbon monoxide detector in your home. Test it regularly, and follow the manufacturers directions for ventless fireplace safety as related to their specific product.

Ventless fireplaces are a great way to efficiently heat smaller spaces. Most ventless fireplaces can be bought and installed in just a matter of minutes since they don’t require a vent. They are usually less expensive to install since they don’t have flues or chimney pipes like older, traditional fireplaces.

Ventless fireplaces can burn two types of fuel. They can burn either natural gas, or propane, or a newer style of fuel called “gel”. Most ventless fireplaces are generally decorative in nature. They generally don’t produce enough heat to be useful for heating large rooms or a whole house for example. However, ventless fireplaces can be used to effectively heat smaller rooms.

Ventless gel fireplaces are not used to heat, but are purely decorative. Since they use a small jar or container of a gel fuel as the fuel source, the flame is generally decorative from gel fireplaces.

As with any device that is fueled by either natural gas or propane, you should have a carbon monoxide detector in your home. This is important for ventless fireplace safety.
