Ventless fireplaces are a great way to efficiently heat smaller spaces. Most ventless fireplaces can be bought and installed in just a matter of minutes since they don’t require a vent. They are usually less expensive to install since they don’t have flues or chimney pipes like older, traditional fireplaces.
Ventless fireplaces can burn two types of fuel. They can burn either natural gas, or propane, or a newer style of fuel called “gel”. Most ventless fireplaces are generally decorative in nature. They generally don’t produce enough heat to be useful for heating large rooms or a whole house for example. However, ventless fireplaces can be used to effectively heat smaller rooms.
Ventless gel fireplaces are not used to heat, but are purely decorative. Since they use a small jar or container of a gel fuel as the fuel source, the flame is generally decorative from gel fireplaces.
As with any device that is fueled by either natural gas or propane, you should have a carbon monoxide detector in your home. This is important for ventless fireplace safety.
